Using the Weight Loss Pyramid with Clients

When using the Weight Loss Food Pyramid with clients, you have several options:

  1. The first option, which you mentioned, is to hand out the done-for-you example, as is. This can be used by the client as a quick visual aid. It might be sufficient if your client’s personality type is a "doer" (which you’ll be learning about in your Module 18, Weight Loss Personality Test). This might also work for a "feeler", who just need to get a feel for the big picture.
  2. If your client is more of a "planner" who loves things spelled out to them step by step, they might do better when receiving the personalized pyramid, which is your original idea, where you can proportionally adapt the number of portions. A "thinker" might also appreciate this level of detail.
  3. The third option, which can be used for all personality types, is to use the blank template from your handouts, where you'd sit down with the client and fill out the one-pager with their current intakes (that is, before starting a program with you). This is useful for you, to see where their largest amount of calories is coming from (and the quality of those calories). For all you know, the client may be eating an "inverted" pyramid, with all the optional extras at the base (instead of the top!).

Overall, you can trial a number of approaches and then follow the one that makes the most sense for different client types (and even for you, in terms of easiness of follow up and the types of questions you get).
